Faustin Weber, school principal, is pleased to announce the school’s first hire for its second year, Mrs. Caitlin Scimeca, wife of current history teacher Mr. John Scimeca. Mrs. Scimeca will teach a combination of Art, Analytical Reading and Physical Education in 2017-2018.
“Mrs. Scimeca will be a dynamic fit in multiple ways for our young school, “ Weber explains. “First, she’s an excellent artist. I’ve had the pleasure of reviewing some of her work, and I’m happy to announce that through her, we’ll be able to begin an art program next year. We’ll start with two elective courses, in addition to the four year choral and band program we offer already, and as our enrollment grows, so will our art offerings.”
“She is also a certified reading specialist, “ Weber continues. “Our intention is to offer a course in Analytical Reading for first semester juniors next year, helping them prep for the ACT/SAT tests in the second semester. I’m excited about that, and believe our juniors will appreciate the chance to sharpen their skills before the high-stakes testing starts up in the spring.
“Finally, she’s an athlete, having played tennis for her high school and college teams, in addition to lettering in other sports. She will help us in the Physical Ed program next year and will also do some assistant coaching for us. I believe she’ll prove to be an excellent role model for our young ladies. “
”I am blessed by the opportunity to pass on my love for art, literacy, and athletics at St. Michael,” Mrs. Scimeca reflects. “I am especially looking forward to being part of a community of faith in an academic setting once more. It is an honor to help build something so special!"
Scimeca received a Master’s degree through the University of Notre Dame’s Alliance for Catholic Education program in 2014 and a B.A. in Art History from Denison University in 2012. She also earned certification as a Reading Specialist from Penn State in 2016. For three years, she taught at St. Joseph School in Petersburg, Va, before moving to Daphne, where she’s worked as a reading specialist at the Learning Center over the last year.
She and her husband John are members of Little Flower Church in Mobile.
