Mrs. Suzanne Lindley has been hired as St. Michael’s first foreign language teacher. She is currently a Spanish and French teacher in the Florence city school system, having earned an M.A. in each subject, and has nearly thirty years experience, ranging from introductory level courses to Advanced Placement.
“I hoped I would like Mrs. Lindley as much in person as I did when I first read her resume, “ says a smiling principal, Faustin Weber, “and when I met her and interviewed her, I liked her even more. She is fluent in Spanish and French, giving us tremendous flexibility as we build a language program here. Though kind and generous of spirit, she admits to a competitive streak, and looks forward to entering our students in state and national competitions. In addition, she’s led student excursions to Europe eight different times, something I’m excited about her continuing here. She’ll be a powerful troubadour for languages at St. Michael, and I think our students will respond well to her competitive fire.”
“While I have taught for many years in a variety of settings,” Mrs. Lindley says, “it will be wonderful to be able to teach the foreign languages I love while also being able to share my faith openly. I am feeling incredibly blessed and excited by the opportunity to be an inaugural member of the faculty who will work to provide a world class education for the students, while also working to create a school culture that will benefit St. Michael students academically, socially, and spiritually.”
Among her career professional achievements, Lindley has been chosen twice as system “Teacher of the Year,” and her students routinely rank in the top five in state-wide French and Spanish contests. Recently, she’s been asked by the Alabama Department of Education to assist in the revamping of the state Foreign Language Course of Study.
Mrs. Lindley has been married to her husband, Keith, for 27 years. They have two children, Alex (age 24) and Gabrielle (21). They are active members of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Florence. “We’ll miss our parish, “ Lindley reflects, “but we’re looking forward to being closer to family members here on the coast and finding a new church home.”
