When evaluating applicants, the admissions office seeks students who have the prerequisite skills to succeed in a college preparatory program, which it determines by an assessment of the student’s prior academic record, a placement test and a personal interview for those students coming to St. Michael from outside the Catholic school system.
We anticipate a diversity of academic aptitudes at St.Michael, reflective of the diversity of Baldwin County Catholic families. Because our first responsibility is to serve these families, they are given preference in admissions, but we welcome students and families of all Christian faiths, united as we are in service to the gospel of Jesus Christ, as well as those from other religious traditions
We invite transfer applicants into 10th or 11th grade who are in good standing with their school, provided space is available. However, the "admissions bar" for acceptance of 10-11 transfers is much higher than 9th grade, as the freshman program introduces students to "foundational" courses that prepare them for the upper grades. A transfer's grades, test scores and performance on our placement test must indicate a high level of fluency in core subjects areas. The acid test is quite often competency in Math, as indicated by our Algebra assessment, since success in Math depends on prior proficiency, and we do not have a remedial math program in the upper grades.
Finally, as a general rule, we do not accept in town senior transfers, nor second semester transfers.
In the event we begin to fill up particular classes, priorities for admission as set by our Advisory Council are as follows:
