About the Scholarship: The “Thomas B. and Michael F. Barnett Scholarship” began in 2019 to honor the memories of Tom and Mike Barnett, sons of Bob and Terry Barnett of Orange Beach, AL. Tom had just graduated from McGill-Toolen at the age of 18, but died in an accident on his way to the University of Alabama for orientation on June 12, 1987. Mike died from cancer on November 11, 2016, at the age of 57.
Amount of the Award: The scholarship pays full tuition for an incoming freshman, and can be renewed each year for the entirety of his or her career at St. Michael. It does not pay for registration, academic fees, capital assessments, or other costs.
Qualifications:
Application Deadline: March 31, the last day for priority aid. All students who meet the criteria above will then be automatically considered for the Barnett Scholarship. There is no need to "apply" for the scholarship.
Announcement of Award: At the Academic Awards ceremony at St. Michael in May for the upcoming year.
Contributions to the Barnett Scholarship Fund: Donors wishing to add to the corpus of the Scholarship Fund are encouraged to do so, helping the scholarship expand the number of future recipients. You may write a check and send to “Thomas B and Michael F. Barnett Scholarship Fund, St. Michael Catholic High School, 11732 St. Michael Way, Fairhope, AL 36532," or donate by credit card, by gift of stock, or by making a monthly pledge. An acknowledgment of the gift will be sent to Bob and Terry Barnett.
