St. Michael announced it has raised 4.1 million dollars in private solicitations for its multi-purpose athletic complex.
The school principal, Faustin Weber, made that announcement as part of the public kick-off for the campaign on April 1, with 300+ in attendance.
Weber took advantage of the date to make the announcement. He originally unveiled a thermometer showing the school had raised only $800,000. But then, saying "April fools!" he encouraged the crowd to make noise as he filled in the thermometer slowly from the bottom up to the 4.1 million dollar mark. He then announced he had a donor who was willing to give the school another $250,000 if the community could get to the 4.75 million before June 1 to finish out the campaign.
"People have been incredibly generous," Weber said to crowd. "And now I ask you, and all of our supporters, to be generous also."
The campaign is over in June.
