St. Michael is pleased to announce that Missy Calvery has been hired as its first school counselor, beginning in the 2017-2018 school year.
Calvery comes to St. Michael with eight years of experience in high schools in the Wichita, Kansas school system. She possesses an B.A and M.S. in Psychology and an Ed.S in School Psychology. Since moving to Daphne in 2012, she has served as a fitness instructor for Signature Training Studios, giving her the flexibility to raise her children.
“I believe Mrs. Calvery will prove to be a dynamic, pro-active advocate for our students,” Mr. Weber, school principal, explains. “She is highly credentialed and experienced, and I believe her personality is such that kids will respond well to her in one to one settings. But more broadly, I expect she’ll use her training to sponsor fitness sessions with our students, work on body-image issues, promote healthy living, and really get to know our students at a deeper level. I’m delighted she accepted our offer!”
Calvery is equally enthusiastic: “It is with great honor that I look forward to serving as the Counselor for St. Michael Catholic High School,” she says. “I’ve been part of the community with my children attending Christ the King. My oldest son plays basketball and soccer for St. Michael and through this I have witnessed what a strong and outstanding community we have here. I look forward to working with the students to help build their confidence as they become our leaders of tomorrow. I try to teach my children to be confident, humble, thankful, and kind and do it all in faith. I hope to share those same values at St. Michael. I am truly thankful to have the opportunity to work with our youth, our future. Go Cardinals!”
Calvery will be hired in a part-time capacity for 2017-18, as an important piece of the school’s comprehensive counseling program. College Counseling, aimed at helping kids with the college application and scholarship process, will be led by Dr. Keith Lindley.
Mrs. Calvery and her husband, Dan, have four children. They are active members of Christ the King parish in Daphne.
