On the basis of placement tests and elementary school grades, we recommended that a number of incoming freshmen sign up for "Math Boot Camp" in early August. The purpose of the camp is to help students brush up on pre-Algebra I skills in anticipation of taking Algebra I this coming year.
MBC is not required, but if we recommended it, we believe it will really help students, boosting their confidence in math to begin high school.
The Camp will be conducted by Mr. Justin Huval, who will also be our Algebra I teacher at St. Michael this coming year. It will give both students and our teacher a chance to get to know each other before the year begins.
The Math Boot Camp will be from Monday through Friday, August 6 through 10, held at two different times:
Morning Session: 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Afternoon Session: 1 p.m to 2:30 p.m.
Families must sign up for one or the other, with a maximum of 20 per class. Sign up by calling our front office from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. (#251-459-0210) or by emailing Marguerite Murphy (MMurphy@stmichaelchs.org).
There is a $50 non-refundable charge for the week of instruction, which is due on August 6 during the first day of class.
Schedules for next year will be mailed out at the end of July/early August. The new year is just around the corner!
