Students arrived on Wednesday for the first day of school EVER for St. Michael Catholic High School, and they were surprised to be welcomed by Archbishop Rodi, who was on hand to greet them as they were dropped off for the first time.
The day unfolded without hitch. As a twist to the day, , Physics teacher Mr. Jon Hall met with all the students in the school cafeteria and challenged the students to build twenty-first century skills at St. Michael--Communication, Creativity, Collaboration and Critical Thinking--by asking students to design a structure made out of spaghetti that would hold up a marshmallow at the highest point possible. The team of Alexa Fucich, Mary Ford and Will Edmiston won the competition with a tower that stretched 60 cm. tall, securing the "award" of a bag of marshmallows.
"Kids were enthusiastic, and excited to meet all their new classmates, " said Faustin Weber, principal. "I think we're all glad to be finally teaching and learning, given all the celebrations we've been having! If the first day is any indication, it's going to be a special, special year."
Local TV stations started live broadcasting at 5 a.m. to chronicle the day and filed final reports for their evening broadcasts. You can see their reports below.
