Congratulations to the thirty-two St. Michael seniors and juniors who were recently named as "Advanced Placement Scholars" by the College Board on the basis of national A.P. tests taken in May.
Five seniors of that group were named “A.P. Scholars with Distinction,” awarded to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. Those students are Cameron Blanchard, Laurie G. Drago, Gabrielle Eslava, Hayden Northcutt and Emily Taylor.
Five juniors and seniors were named “A.P Scholars with Honor,” awarded to students who receive an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams. Those students are Mary K. Anthony, Claire Blythe, Andrew Fouty, Margaret Hemby and Rebekah Schott.
Twenty-two juniors and seniors were named “A.P. Scholars,” awarded to students who receive scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams. Those students were Maeve Andrews, Laurel Barker, Ryan Brown, Andres Christiansen, John Davis, Mary Ford, Gary Ickes, Jake Kokoszka, Evelyn Livaudais, Molly Mavrakos, Lachlan McAloon, Isaac McBane, Augustine Mitchell, Timothy Mullek, Noah Nelson, Jack Phelps, Anna Claire Potier, Zachary Russell, Sarah K. Sligh, Kinsey Smith, Sarah Beth Treutel and Gabrielle Yenewine.
“We’re very proud of these students and their teachers,” school principal Faustin Weber says. "Unlike merit tests, the national A.P. tests reflect achievement--how well a student has learned the subject material, and by extension, how well they've been taught. For that reason, I've always regarded A.P. scores as a good window into our honors program, and these numbers indicate our program is strengthening."
“Three additional notes”, Weber continues:
“We had 123 total juniors and seniors last year, so 32 scholars is over a quarter of the those classes. Kudos to them!
“Second, sixteen of these students are just juniors, and may take three, four or even five additional A.P. classes in their senior year. They're going to be highly decorated by the time they graduate! "
“Finally, only juniors and seniors can be named A.P. Scholars, but we’re excited about last year's sophomores as well. Ten scored perfect “5’s” on the A.P. Geography exam, and twelve scored 4’s. That’s really strong, and portends well for their academic futures as upperclassmen here."
St. Michael offers Advanced Placement courses in Human Geography, English Literature, English Composition, American History, Spanish, Government, Psychology, BC Physics and BC Calculus.
