Archbishop Rodi and Superintendent Ms. Gwen Byrd have hired Faustin Weber to be the first principal of St. Michael Catholic High School. Weber was announced during the school's groundbreaking on March 19, 2015.
Weber is the current headmaster of Pope John Paul II High School, a diocesan school of 600 students in Nashville, TN., a post he's held since 2008. Prior to that, he was president of Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School from 2001-2008, principal of Catholic High from 1989-2001, and began his career as an English and Theology teacher at Catholic High from 1985-1989.
"I am very happy to be returning to the Archdiocese of Mobile and to the Mobile area in particularly--my home," Weber said. "I consider it a great honor to be named the founding principal of St. Michael, and I am eager to begin building this school with the archdiocese and people of Baldwin County. We're going to have a lot of fun!"
Mr. Weber is a product of the archdiocesan Catholic School system in Mobile. He attended St. Ignatius Catholic elementary from K-6 and Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic elementary in grades 7-8 before attending McGill-Toolen, where he graduated in 1980. He then attended the University of Notre Dame, where he earned both an undergraduate and graduate degree in liberal arts (systematic theology).
Weber is married to Diane, his wife of 28 years. They have four children: Faus (28), a Catholic school assistant principal in Columbus, OH, Cynthia (26), a lawyer in Dallas, TX, Aaron (24) who works in Nashville, TN, and Daniel (20), a student at Purdue. He considers among his hobbies, fidgeting with technology, all sports ("well," he qualifies, "unless you consider NASCAR a sport"), Chess, Scrabble, guitar, reading and writing. He's kept a blog, entitled "
Catholic Educator," since 2005.
He begins work for the archdiocese on July 1, 2015 in anticipation of an August, 2016 school opening. For more information, see
