Application to the Aegis program is a bit lengthy, given the information that must be gathered prior to an acceptance decision. There are two parts to the application process.
First, you must apply to the program at St. Michael by filling out all the paperwork included with this link.
Second, if you're applying to the program for the first time, your child must be evaluated by a licensed psychometrist, and a copy of the testing report must be provided to St. Michael. The report must be current—within the last three years. If more than 3 years old, we ask that your child is re-tested. The school will review the testing report, and if necessary, interview the students, parents or past teachers to gather more information. In more cases than not, if a student has been in a special needs program at a previous school, he or she will qualify for Aegis here.
You have a choice between using a private psychometrist or the Archdiocese of Mobile. Using a private psychometrist likely improves the speed by which you can complete the process, but it's also likelier much more costly than using the Archdiocese. If you go this route, please make clear we need, as part of the documentation, IQ and achievement assessments. It's your choice, but we will not place a student into Aegis until all the testing is completed.
If you choose the Archdiocese to do the evaluation, you must complete the following forms:
1) Test request, general information and permission to evaluate form.
2) Three "Copeland Assessment Forms" (Download three forms--one to be filled out by you, two by teachers of your choice. You must ask them. You send them these forms and ask them to mail directly to St. Michael, c/o Jackie Stapleton, St. Michael, 11732 Higbee Road, Fairhope, 36532 or email them at JStapleton@stmichaelchs.org)
3) Three "Teacher Questionaire" forms (Download three forms--Please ask three different teachers from those you asked to fill out the Copeland forms from #3). They send directly to Jackie at the above address or email).
4) Mail your application form (#1 above) and your assessment from the "Copeland Assessment" (#2) to Jackie Stapleton, our Aegis Instructor (St. Michael, 11732 Higbee Road, Fairhope, 36532).
Once she receives your information and the forms from the teachers, she will do an initial evaluation and then request a date for testing from the Archdiocese. Be patient--This process may take several months depending on the # of requests for testing from around the Archdiocese and how quickly all parties send in forms.
