The Ignatian Scholarships are sponsored by a local Catholic family foundation. They are awards given in the name of St. Ignatius Loyola, founder of the Jesuit Order and author of the Spiritual Exercises. Ignatius was well known as a spiritual director, helping his pupils through the process of discernment, helping them understand God’s will for their lives. Key to those principles are an openness to God’s will, a generosity of spirit, courage, prayer, and study. The motto for the Jesuits is "ad majorem Dei gloriam," with translates "to the greater glory of God," often abbreviated as "A.M.D.G."
