St. Michael is pleased to announce the hiring of Melanie Miller as the third member of the English department. Miss Miller is a graduate on Auburn University, with a degree in English Literature and a Minor in Spanish and Religious Studies. For the last four years, she has been a member of “FOCUS,” a national Catholic outreach program designed to evangelize and encourage university students to deepen their faith, working on the campuses of both Belmont Abbey and Auburn University.
“Miss Miller is a good fit for us,” says Faustin Weber, the principal. “I’ve asked her to become the principal teacher in our freshman year writing program and have moved Mr. Drake to the senior year, where he will teach A.P. and the other senior English classes. Miss Miller will be excellent with freshman. I also think her experience in FOCUS will be invaluable to us. As a FOCUS missionary, she planned retreats, led mission trips at home and abroad, designed and led religious services, and supported students in their faith development. Based on those experiences, I’ve asked her to become part of the campus ministry team at St. Michael with our theology department. They’re delighted, as am I, to welcome her to our school!”
Miller is equally enthusiastic: “It is such an honor to be invited to work alongside the faculty and staff at St. Michael’s. When I felt God calling me from working as a missionary to college students, I knew he would call me to a new mission field somewhere else. It is a blessing that I get to marry my passion for English literature and writing with the work I have been doing introducing students to Jesus Christ and his Church. I can’t wait to get started! “
Miller is currently a parishioner at St. Michael Catholic Church in Auburn, AL.
