St. Michael Catholic High School is pleased to announce it has hired Missy Williams to be its full time Physical Education teacher and the school’s first Head Varsity Volleyball Coach, beginning in the summer of 2018. Miss Williams is currently the J.V. volleyball coach at St. Michael and a fifth grade teacher at Christ the King Catholic School.
“Coach Williams has done an excellent job starting our volleyball program,” reflects St. Michael Athletic Director, Paul Knapstein. “The girls have improved tremendously over the past two seasons. Coach has used her background as a college athlete, college coach, and club coach to train our girls. She’s also a wonderful role model for the young women in our program. We are excited about having her presence on campus every day. Her faith, dedication, and determination will be a welcome addition to our daily life at St. Michael.”
“I am thankful for the opportunity to become a full time staff member at St. Michael,” says Miss Williams. “Since the school opened, there has been an energy and excitement surrounding the community. I have enjoyed being a part of this in a small way while starting the volleyball program and am very excited to have a larger role in the school in the future. Leaving Christ the King was a very difficult decision, and I have been blessed by being a part of the lives of wonderful students, parents, and staff. I will be forever grateful for the support that I received from everyone in the six years I had the opportunity to teach there.”
Coach William’s volleyball career began as a player at Fairhope High School and continued as a student at Spring Hill College. Upon completing her playing career and earning an undergraduate degree in elementary education, she became a graduate assistant coach in the Spring Hill program. After earning a graduate degree, she was hired by Christ the King and also began coaching teenagers in the Eastern Shore Volleyball Club program. When St. Michael opened in 2016, she was hired as the school’s junior volleyball coach, a position she’s now held for two seasons.
“I am grateful to Max Crain, principal of Christ the King, for his support in allowing Miss Williams to pursue this position,” principal Faustin Weber says. “The parents of Christ the King and her former students speak well of her, as do her current players at St. Michael.”
“In addition to the volleyball, she’ll be a huge addition to our Physical Education program,” Weber continues. “We needed a female coach on staff. By splitting P.E. classes with Coach Phelps, it will allow Coach Phelps to do more intensive, individual work with our athletes in weight-training and conditioning. We think Miss Williams will be a “win-win” for our both our girls’ and boys’ athletic programs, and as Coach Knapstein indicates, our entire school.”
