Dear students and parents,
We started our remote learning program on March 19 and have had 17 “class” days since. To help us measure how we’re doing, we’ve created a number of “feedback loops,” including parent and student surveys, a meeting with seniors earlier this week, and my weekly Wednesday virtual faculty meetings. I’ve been asking what’s working, what’s not, and where there are opportunities to improve. Students have been happy to share their candid opinions with me!
One comment appearing over and over, as we spend more time apart, is that the students miss their teachers and the teachers miss them. This is a great affirmation that teaching is not, at root, the delivery of a curriculum, but the creation and nurturing of relationships between mentor and learner, and between learners with each other.
We need to “see” more of each other. Accordingly, when we return from Easter vacation, we’re making an important adjustment to our distance learning program: We will be asking students to “attend” a live class via Zoom in each subject area, once/week, according to the following schedule, beginning April 20:
Virtual Classrooms:
Mondays: 9 a.m. (First period), 10 a.m. (Second period), 11 a.m. (Third period) and 12 p.m. (4th period)
Tuesdays: 9 a.m. (Fifth period), 10 a.m. (Sixth period), 11 a.m. (Seventh period) and 12 p.m. (Eighth period)
Classes will be 40-50 minutes in length and students are required to attend. Roll will be taken. There will be 10-20 minutes “break” between each class. Each class will count as one of the three “lessons” students are already required to complete each week. Each class will continue to require two graded assignments per week and two additional lessons. Zoom codes will be posted on each class bulletin board.
Revised “Tutorial” Zoom Schedules:
Wednesday:
9 a.m. Math
10 a.m. English
11 a.m. Foreign Language
12 p.m. Fine Arts
1 p.m. Faculty Meeting
Thursday:
9 a.m. Science
10 a.m. History
11 a.m. Theology
12 p.m. Physical Education
Additional zoom sessions, if necessary, at the discretion of the teacher, on Fridays or after 1 p.m. the rest of the week.
If you'd like a downloadable copy of the schedule above to post on your refrigerator or at your desk, just click here.
We hope these adjustment will prove helpful to students.
Onward and upward!
Mr. Weber
