In just its first year of existence, with many students singing formally or learning their instruments for the first time in August, the St. Michael band and Chamber singers each scored "superior" in state music competitions on Thursday and Friday.
The Chamber singers logged scores of 1, 1, and 2 on stage from the three judges, and 2 in sight-reading, for an overall score of 1, or "Superior." The competition was held on Thursday, March 16 at Spring Hill Baptist Church as part of the AVA State Choral Performance Assessment.
On Friday, St. Patrick's day, the St. Michael band scored straight 1's in performance and sight-reading at the ABA State Band Performance competition at Baker High School.
"It's an extraordinary achievement, truly remarkable for a program less than a year old," beams Faustin Weber, school principal. " My congratulations to Mr. Pryor and all of our student-musicians! It's very powerful to see ordinary kids do something so extraordinary together--an aspiration I have for all of our endeavors here! Bravo, band and chamber singers!"
