Congratulations to Mr. Ryan Bliss, a Math/Physics teacher at St. Michael, who will be presenting at the National Catholic Educational Association conference during Spring Break in Chicago, IL.
Mr. Bliss will be presenting with three other "Alliance for Catholic Education" teachers out of Notre Dame, on the subject of "Number Talks in Catholic Math Classrooms." The gist of the talk will be to emphasize ways to build conceptual understandings for the mathematical operations that students use, often without truly understanding what the numbers represent.
Mr. Bliss finishes his two year commitment to St. Michael as part of Notre Dame "A.C.E." program in May. Having earned an undergraduate degree at N.D. in engineering, and now a Master's degree in education, he is returning to Notre Dame for a second Master's degree in "Engineering and Entrepreneurship."
During his tenure with St. Michael, Mr. Bliss taught several levels of Mathematics and Freshman Physics. He's co-led our Robotics team (see picture above, far right) and served as our head junior varsity soccer coach for the last two years. He's been a frequent volunteer for school dances and other student activities, and has chaperoned the "March for Life" trip to Washington D.C. for the last two years.
Thank you for your service to our students, Mr. Bliss, and may God bless you in your future endeavors!
