Congratulations to
Mrs. Lindley and our Spanish students (see picture) for their performance at the 49th Annual Convention of the Alabama Federation of Spanish Clubs was held on April 6th on the campus of the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
Schools from across the state participated, and St. Michael students represented us well with 18 students bringing home trophies for state-level wins. Mrs. Lindley and Ms. Smith, along with three wonderful parent chaperones (Lori Matus, Liz Ray, and Kelly Childress) accompanied the St. Michael students. The 33 students who attended the convention competed in a variety of areas pertaining to the Spanish language and culture. The 2018 winners and their respective competitions are as follows:

We had seven students earn "medalist" honors. They are:
Gold medalists: (Latin I) Sarah Kate Sligh, Luke Bosarge, and (Latin III) Alexander Vick.
Silver medalists: (Latin I) John Davis, (Latin II) Jack Phelps, James Marlowe, and (Latin III) Griffin Mahoney.
In addition to these medalists, we had nine other students receive particular recognition:
Earning "magna cum laude" recognition were: Hannah Gay, Emily Taylor, Gabrielle Eslava, and Mary Kate Anthony (Latin II)
Earning "cum laude" recognition were: Margaret Loegler, Andrés Christensen, Joshua Lynch (Latin I) and
Maeve Andrews and Marc Nyantakyi (Latin II).
