Welcome to St. Michael’s sixth year as a school!
We have 351 students, our most ever, with 87 freshmen, 88 sophomores, 91 juniors and 85 seniors. A special welcome to our 101 new students and their families!
Our students hail from 18 distinct zip codes. 13% of our student body are children of color, whereas 81% are Catholic. We are pleased to welcome our many non-Catholic families. In the words of our founder, Archbishop Rodi, we want St. Michael to be a “welcoming place for all those of other faiths who desire an excellent education, rooted in gospel values.”
We have five new teachers: Lourdes Baumer (Spanish), David Wright (Math), Ethan Bennett (Chorus), Melanie Gonzalez (Band) and Kai Lopez (Asst. Director of Facilities, P.E.). I believe they will be strong additions to our program. I have also asked Lisa East to run our Chromebook program, and she has graciously agreed.
Our athletes have worked hard all summer, so we’re excited to begin the fall athletic season. We are blessed with excellent varsity coaches this fall: Missy Williams in volleyball, NeKalynn Gellington in cheerleading and Shannon Blythe in cross-country. We are also obviously excited to inaugurate the “Philip Rivers” era for our football program. Coach Rivers has been working with our team since March, and brings with him the credentials and enthusiasm that has our players really excited.
We are also looking forward to launching our "Cardinals for Others" program this fall, in which our students are commissioned to serve local charities around Baldwin County. This was one of the goals coming out of our five year stratetic plan, Vision 2025. Our students are going to be a spectacular blessing to these ministries, and I believe serving others will make a marked difference in their lives as well.
Kudos to our custodial team, under the direction of Griffin Shreves, our facilities director, for having the school cleaned, polished and ready for students. Our campus is holding up well after our first five years, and we’re blessed by the beauty of the farmlands around us.
God has blessed us beyond measure in our first five years. Let us pray we continue to be faithful to Him and to our mission to form "scholars, leaders and disciples of Jesus Christ" as we forge forward!
Onward and upward!
