In just its second year as a varsity program, the boys’ cross country team is the school’s first state championship team, bringing home the trophy after their performance at the state finals this weekend. Congratulations to Coach Hall, Coach Lindley, and to our entire cross country program, boys and girls, who pushed each other over the last year to achieve this historic first!
The Cardinals were led in the 5K run by its three seniors: Michael Garriz, who finished 7th overall at 17:15 (a new school record), Jack Phelps, who finished 8th, running 17:21, and Nick Berrios, who finished 15th, running 17:39. They were followed by Tripp Miller in 18th place and Edward Cowles at 23rd, John Davis at 25th, Andres Christiansen at 31st, Luke Berrios, Dyson Crooker and Hunter Stevenson. Incredibly, all ten boys ran personal bests in the event, with an average team time of 17:36. Bayside Academy came in second, with an average time of 17:44.
