Students,
The purpose of summer work and reading is three-fold: to help keep you “on your toes” during the long summer months, where it’s easy to become intellectually sluggish; to reduce your work load next year when you’re taking 8 classes—by doing some of this now, you’ll have less to do then-- and finally, to emphasize that becoming an educated person is not merely a function of classroom time, but a life-long pursuit marked by curiosity and a continual desire to better yourself, intellectually and spiritually.
To that end, everyone has to read at least one book. If you’re in the Honors/A.P. program, you’ll be asked to read an extra book in English, some additional reading in History, and complete a Math problem set for review. Unless otherwise noted, you are responsible for this work when we start school in August.
Almost all of these books are likely available in local book stores or on line.
Take a little bit at a time over the next two months, and it won’t be difficult. Don’t wait until the last second to do it. Don’t wait until the last second. Don’t Wait.
Sincerely,
The St. Michael Faculty
