St. Michael is pleased to announce it has hired Mrs. Lourdes Baumer to be a full time Spanish teacher for the 2021-22 school year. Mrs. Baumer is a native of Quito, Ecuador. She’s taught Spanish in public schools, private schools, the University of South Alabama, and since 2010, at the University of Mobile. She possesses a Master’s degree in Education, specializing in foreign languages. A true linguist, she is fluent in Spanish, English and German, and can also speak Italian and French.
“We’re very pleased she’s joining us, “ says Faustin Weber, principal. “Our English teacher, Dr. Doug Mitchell, was a colleague of Mrs. Baumer at the University of Mobile, and he recommended her. As part of the interview process, I asked Mrs. Lindley and Mrs. Smith to talk with her, and they both came back and gave me their enthusiastic endorsement. I believe the fact she is a native speaker will be good for our students, but I hasten to add that her English is excellent, having lived in the United States now since 2001. I expect her to be a passionate, professional and caring mentor for our students.“
Mrs. Baumer is looking forward to working with high school students again. “I believe the influence a Catholic teacher can have on his or her students is something the students will never forget. Our role as teachers is to be good examples, so that our students can grow into good citizens—responsible, goal-oriented and faithful. I can’t wait to start!”
Mrs. Baumer is a widow with two 30-year old children She is a member of Christ the King Church and has lived in Daphne for 22 years.
