St. Michael Athletic Director and Assistant Principal Paul Knapstein is happy to announce that he has hired Mr. Simon Cortopassi to become a full time member of the Cardinal staff. Cortopassi will assistant coach in both football and baseball, and will also assist Coach Phelps with weight-lifting and conditioning with students. He comes to St. Michael via Cottage Hill Academy, where he served the school in numerous capacities. He is finishing his degree at the University of South Alabama.
“As our athletic program grows, we need more hands on deck,” said Knapstein, explaining the hire. “I’ve known Simon since his days at McGill, and think well of him, as does Cottage Hill in my discussions with them. We’re happy to have a young, dedicated coach on staff who can help us in multiple sports, and think he’ll be a difference maker for us.”
Cortopassi is happy to become a Cardinal: “I am beyond thankful for the opportunity to join the St. Michael staff as an assistant football and baseball coach. Growing up in Catholic schools, participating in CYO sports and playing baseball and football at McGill-Toolen, I have always aspired to continue my career as a coach in our schools. I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of this athletic program as it continues to grow and flourish.”
Simon is married to Abbie, and together they attend Christ the King in Daphne.
